Is my credit card information totally safe with you?

If I buy a hosting plan today can I upgrade later on when my site grows? Will i get charged for upgrading?
Yes, you can upgrade at any point. Just send an email to sales@onsdesigns.com and let them know which plan you want to upgrade to, they will prorate what you have used so far of your current plan cost. No there is no charge for upgrading in hosting plans! [Back to Top]
Can I register my domain name with you?
Yes, I am glad you asked. If you plan to purchase a hosting package you will be given the opportunity to register your domain at that point. However, if you would like to register a domain with us but you are not purchasing a hosting package today you can send an email to domain@onsdesigns.com with the domain name (eg. domain.com, domain.net, etc.) and we will email you an invoice with a sink for you to make a secure payment. Do you offer unlimited bandwidth?
No, it is not possible to offer unlimited bandwidth at all. That would be lying to our customers. Like everybody else, we are required to pay for the amount of bandwidth we consume to our upstream providers. We then in turn pass this fee to our customers in order to provide enough resources to our customers. This also applies to other hosts as well, not just us. [Back to Top]
Can I try your system before deciding?

Can I host adult related sites?
Yes, we allow adult content as long as it abides by local laws, no child pornography of any kind is tolerated! You will be terminated without a refund and will get reported to the proper agencies! We do not tolerate it at all. [Back to Top]
Do you allow MP3 files? Do you allow streaming of videos?
Yes, we have no problem as long as those MP3's and video files are legitimate. Please make sure you select the proper plan which allows it. We suggest a higher bandwidth and space plan because most likely, since its mp3s and videos they tend to be bigger files and once they are streamed they consume a lot of bandwidth. [Back to Top]
How soon will my account be activated?

Do you offer money back guarantee?

I already have a domain, can I use it with your hosting? what are the steps?
Yes,if you already have a domain you can use it with our hosting plans. The first step is to select the hosting plan of your choice. Then follow the steps to the order form. Select I already have a domain I would like to use on the order form. Note this will not transfer your domain from your current registrar where you registered the domain, this will only transfer the hosting if it is already hosted. If you want to fully transfer the domain to our registrar and extend the registration for one year please contact domain@onsdesigns.com. After you paid for the hosting you will receive an email with all your login information to the server. You MUST also login into your domain control panel where ever you registered the domain and modify the NAMESERVERS or DNS to ours, our name servers will be in the welcome email, you must make those changes in order for your website to be live. Billing Questions
Can I prepay for an additional monthly data transfer/bandwidth?
No. If you need more monthly data transfer, you need to upgrade your account. If you need extra bandwidth for only one month, please contact sales when you are about to exceed your limit. [Back to Top]
What will happen when my site go over the data transfer limit?
The system has the capability to block sites that exceed their data transfer limit. This will be done at the owner's option of course, so you will have the choice to continue using more data transfer and pay more at the end of the month, or stop using more data transfer but no need to pay more at the end of the month. I don't have credit card. Can I do a wire transfer, check or money order?

Account Questions
Can I have more than one domain pointed to my account?
Yes, for an additional one time setup fee of $15.00. Basically the added domain will clone the content of your original domain. For example If you have http://www.x.com/ and you also have http://www.y.com/. Your original website is x.com, but you would like y.com to have the same content. This is what you need! Do you support subdomains?

What is a subdomain?
A subdomain is any term you want before your domain. For example you have a domain www.x.com and say you want to create another web page. You can create a subdomain another.x.com and it can be like a whole separate web page. In essence it is a domain as well. So < it is a very nice feature to have. [Back to Top]

I have been notified that my account has been set up but my site is still not active
If you have received a notification email and its been over 48 hours, it means that you either did not point your domain name to the right DNS servers or your ISP's DNS server has not yet been updated. It generally takes 24 hours for domain names to become active. This is just how the internet works; there is no way we can speed up the process. [Back to Top]

Which brand of control panel do you use? Can I see a demo?

Uploading with FTP
To connect to your website via FTP to upload/download files, you will need an FTP Client. Popular FTP Clients are FileZilla, CuteFTP and LeechFTP.
Your homepage should be named index.html or index.shtml. This is the page that will show when someone visits http://www.yoursite.com. Follow the instructions below to learn how to upload your file.
- Run your FTP client
- Click the connect button.
- Enter ftp.yoursite.com as the server name.
- Use the user name and password provided in your welcome email in the username and password fields.
- Connect
- Open up the public_html directory.
- Delete the file in there called index.html
- Upload your index.html file and any other files you need to upload.
- Disconnect and close the FTP client.
- Point your browser to http://www.yoursite.com and view your brand new website!

SSL
What is SSL?
SSL (Secured Socket Layer), is used for sending and receiving sensitive information such as Credit Card information across the World Wide Web. It ensures encrypted/secure communications between the client and receiving server. The SSL protocol supports the use of a variety of different cryptographic algorithms, or ciphers, and most of which provide 40, 56, or 128 bit encryption security.
Key-exchange algorithms like KEA and RSA key exchange govern the way in which the server and client determine the symmetric keys they will both use during an SSL session. The most commonly used SSL cipher suites use "RSA" key exchange, which many of you have probably seen displayed on numerous websites, and next to a provider called "GeoTrust", who issues the SSL Server Certificates. A certificate is used to officially identify you as a legitimate SSL enabled website, and displays your name as the certified holder when visitors check it.
When to use SSL?
SSL is not generally, nor should it be used for all pages on a website. SSL is most commonly used for the sending and receiving of sensitive information such as credit cards, membership ID's, or customer billing information access. SSL need only be used on the "particular" page where the secure activity is taking place. ALWAYS use SSL when asking for credit card information. If visitors do not observe the https// appearing on the form URL, and the "SSL Symbol", does not illuminate in their browser, they won't be doing a whole lot of business with you. No one wants his or her credit card information intercepted and stolen as the result of a site not using SSL encryption!
SSL Usage?
There are two different ways of using SSL. The two are essentially the same, however one will display "VOSN" as the certificate holder, and the other, (which you must purchase) displays "your company" as the certificate holder. Essentially, when visitors click on an SSL enabled page, they receive a message that displays information about the owner of the SSL certificate. In most cases, e-commerce based websites would prefer to have 'their' name appear as the holder because it maintains a professional appearance. Alternatively, and if it matters not, you could simply use our default SSL server, however visitors will see "VOSN" as the owner of the certificate. We'll explain how to obtain your own certificate later in this document.

Sub Domains
Sub-domains are a neat feature included on every hosting account. Sub-domains are 3rd level domain names. They are in the format: subdomain.yoursite.com. Sub-domains are useful for separating parts of your site or hosting separate websites on your domain name. To create a sub-domain, enter you cPanel. Then click on the icon labeled Sub-domains
The sub-domain page lists the current sub-domains. There is a field where you can enter a new sub-domain and create edit. To create a new sub-domain, enter its name in the text box and click add. The system will then create the sub-domain and create a sub directory with the same name as the sub-domain in public_html where you can upload pages to the sub-domain. It will also create a cgi-bin directory in that folder where you can put your cgi scripts.
To delete a sub-domain, simply select it from the drop down box next to the Delete button, and click "delete".
An extra feature of subdomains is you can create a FTP account to allow FTP access to it without giving out your main FTP password for the rest of your site.

The most common website errors such as 404 Page Missing, 401 Access Denied, etc can be customized to your liking. To customize them, log in to CPanel. Then click on the Custom Error Pages button listed under "Site Management Tools". From there, select the code number of the error you wish to customize. The next page is the editing page, In the text box, you can edit the HTML code for the error page. |
